PaylessBZ Terms and Conditions

1. Rental Eligibility and Requirements
Booking and Age Requirements
- Renters must be at least 21 years old.
- Renters aged 21 to 23 must:
- Purchase full coverage insurance.
- Leave a double cash security deposit.
- Provide two valid forms of identification.
Identification Requirements
- All renters must present a valid driver's license and one additional form of ID.
- International customers: Passport preferred.
- Local customers: Social Security Card preferred.
2. Payment Methods and Security Deposits
Accepted Payment Methods
- We accept AMEX, MasterCard, Visa, and Cash.
- Discover Card is not accepted due to a temporary service disruption in Belize.
Security Deposit Policy
Cash or debit card customers are required to leave a security deposit of USD $1000–$1500, depending on the vehicle class.
Insurance Declination Policy
- Credit card customers renting for more than three (3) days may decline full coverage but must:
- Leave a security deposit of USD $1000–$1500.
- Accept full financial responsibility for all damages, regardless of fault.
- For rentals of up to three (3) days, minimum CDW and DP coverage is required.
- Customers paying with cash or debit card cannot decline insurance and must purchase full coverage (CDW, Non-CDW, DP, Tire, and Windshield) with a cash deposit of USD $1000–$1500.
3. International Travel Restrictions
Travel to Guatemala and Mexico
- Rentals may be driven to Tikal (Guatemala) and Chetumal (Mexico) at the customer's responsibility.
- A permit letter is required for Guatemala and must be requested at least 48 hours in advance. A USD $49 fee applies.
- Additional border crossing fees are the customer's responsibility.
- Mexican insurance must be purchased in advance through Payless BZ Car Rental.
- Customers must obtain Guatemalan insurance directly in Guatemala.
- A security deposit of USD $1000 is required for cross-border rentals.
4. Insurance Coverage and Responsibilities
Coverage Requirements
- Full coverage (CDW, Non-CDW, DP, Tire, and Windshield) is mandatory for rentals of 1 to 2 days.
- For rentals of 3 or more days, CDW may be purchased alone.
- Customers renting for 4 or more days may decline full insurance coverage but must leave a security deposit of USD $1000–$1500.
- All customers with CDW and Non-CDW coverage are responsible for the first USD $1000 in damages (deductible).
- DP (Deductible Protection) can be purchased to waive this deductible.
Use of Credit Card Insurance
- Customers who decline our insurance and rely on credit card coverage are fully responsible for damages.
- Full payment for damages must be made upon return of the vehicle. Customers may seek reimbursement directly from their credit card provider.
5. Rental Terms and Conditions
Vehicle Return Policy
- Vehicles must be returned at the agreed time and location.
- Only the contract holder may return the vehicle.
- Additional drivers are not authorized to return rentals.
- Late returns will incur a charge of USD $10.00 per hour. After four hours, the full-day rate may apply.
- Vehicles must be returned with the same fuel level as when rented.
- Refueling fee: USD $10 per gallon
- Service fee: USD $10
- No refunds for excess fuel
Extensions and Emergencies
- Rental extensions must be paid before the current contract expires.
- Failure to pay on time voids the rental agreement and any insurance coverage.
- If the customer fails to contact the office within 24 hours, the rental may be reported as missing or stolen.

6. Vehicle Usage Rules
Driving Regulations
- Highway speed limit: 55 mph (90 km/h)
- Village speed limit: 15–25 mph
- While most major roads in Belize are paved, high-clearance 2WD vehicles are recommended for tourist destinations.
- A 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended for Mountain Pine Ridge and rough terrain roads.
Accidents and Vehicle Condition
In the event of an accident:
- Call 911 immediately.
- Do not move or abandon the vehicle.
- Notify the rental office right away.
Additional Fees:
- A USD $200 cleaning fee will apply for smoking inside the vehicle.
- A cleaning fee of USD $25 will apply if the vehicle is returned excessively dirty.
- A USD $50 pet cleaning fee applies for vehicles returned with pet-related messes.
7. Additional Fees and Notes
Drop-Off Policy
- A drop-off fee of USD $200 or more will apply for vehicles returned to our Placencia location.
- Additional charges will be calculated based on the vehicle class and must be arranged in advance.
- Prior arrangements are required for drop-offs at locations other than our Main Office, Airport, or Placencia Office.
Driving Advisory
Important: In Belize, when making a left-hand turn, drivers must pull to the far right of the road and wait until both directions are clear before turning left.
